The opening day of the school year brings many firsts, especially for kindergartners starting school for the first time. From learning how to line up, the right way to sit on the floor and playground rules- everyting is new for these 5- and 6- year olds.

 

Forging a way with horses

Travis Smity of Columbia has found a way to make his living by working with horses as a farrier. Smith has been called a "horseman's farrier" because of the gentle way he interacts with the horses the he works on.

Every year deer hunters from around south central Michigan bring the bucks thhey have harvested to Knutson's Recreational Sales in Brooklyn to be weighed and displayed on the opening day of firearms season. People from around the area stop by the store every year to see the season's harvest.
