You all are in for a treat with this blog post! Angie and Eddie’s summer wedding in Chicago, Illinois has so much going on in the most perfect way. After photographing Angie’s sister’s wedding a couple years ago, we knew that Angie’s wedding would be nothing short of spectacular. You should probably revisit Matt and Melissa’s wedding to recall how Pinterest worthy it was. Did you check it out??? All those details! Guess what? You won’t be disappointed by Angie’s details either! Angie is from central Illinois, Eddie’s family is from Mexico, and the couple lives in Chicago. Angie and Eddie wanted to plan a wedding that showcased who they are, represented all that mattered in their lives, and treat guests to an amazing evening. I say their wedding day did just that!
We began our day with Angie in a beautiful suite at the Hilton Chicago overlooking Lake Michigan. The suite was the perfect place for Angie and her tribe to get ready as it provided lovely views, gorgeous natural light, and plenty of room to spread out for hair and make up. I had so much fun styling all of Angie’s pretty wedding attire details. Check out her shoes – what a work of art! And her custom clutch? Completely on brand for the day. Narrowing down what photos to share with you was tricky as there were so many to choose from!
After Angie was ready to roll, we strolled down Michigan Avenue to the first look. When we met with Angie, she had it in her mind to do the first look on the terrace of Venue Six10 and it’s easy to see why. The terrace not only gives you sweeping Lake Michigan as a backdrop but some awesome architectural details. I’ll probably say this at least once more, but one of my favorite photos is of Angie and Eddie kissing on the terrace with the lake sparkling in the distance.
We then walked down Michigan Avenue to the ceremony site for some formal portraits, which produced another one of my favorite photos. I absolutely adore the photo of Angie and Eddie walking over the cross walk with bouquet in hand and the Chicago architecture creating the perfect image. If I were Angie and Eddie, I would take that image and make a giant canvas of it! We stopped in briefly to the Hilton Chicago do a few formal photos in the lobby. When you have a train on your dress like Angie did, it’s only right that you find somewhere you can showcase that train. Though the wedding day had more of a modern vibe, I love the formality of Angie’s dress on the elegant stairs of the hotel.
We wrapped up portraits in time for the ceremony at the 8th Street Fountain of Grant Park on Michigan Avenue. Angie donned her mother’s wedding veil (which her sister also wore) and it was time to exchange vows. The ceremony was a lovely mix of things important to the bride and groom. Musicians who are also loved ones of the bride and groom performed during the ceremony, including the father of the groom. With many of Eddie’s relatives coming from Mexico for the wedding, parts of the ceremony were done in English and Spanish. And to end the ceremony, the couple were draped in a wedding lasso rosary. The large rosary was placed on them by Eddie’s parents and is a symbol of unifying the couple together in marriage. The lasso rosary also is a figure eight, representing the symbol for infinity – no beginning and end. It was such a cool way to bring together two families, two cultures and two lives into one.
Angie and Eddie exited the ceremony into a waiting pedicab! They took a quick trip around downtown Chicago as husband and wife, while guests headed over to the reception for cocktail hour. Amazing appetizers and specialty drinks greeted guests, as well as a red carpet, custom step and repeat backdrop, and our GIF Booth! Many took advantage of our J. Kelley GIF Booth and received images perfect for posting to all social media platforms.
Cocktail hour led into the main event, where more details awaited. There was a custom neon sign, a churro wall/station, and floral arrangements swoon worthy. Following toasts, the happy couple welcomed the surprise Mariachi band. Many guests were up dancing to the band and singing along. Then the night really got started! The DJ had the floor crowded and guests refueled on churros! What more could you ask for? How about fireworks? Every summer Saturday night in Chicago, Navy Pier puts on a fireworks show. The floor to ceiling windows of Venue Six10 are perfect for watching the show. Angie and Eddie snuck out to the terrace where we captured another one of my favorite images. What a perfect way to end an already amazing day.
