Tina Senior Portraits {Columbia, Mo.}

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

We had a great senior portrait session with Tina in Columbia, Mo. recently. Tina wanted to start by taking some pictures in the woods behind her house and it was a great location. There was a really cool rocky stream bed which offered perfect background to start the session.

Tina and her friends like to hang out in downtown Columbia around Peace Park and Flat Branch Park, so we headed there next for our second location and some more fun and creative senior photos. The weather was perfect and we had great light as the session continued into the early evening.

We had a great time getting to know Tina and learn about her plans for the future during her senior portrait session. We hope you enjoy these pictures, we had a great time taking them.

Friday, March 30th, 2012

The Barnard family traveled to Columbia, Missouri last weekend to celebrate a 30th wedding anniversary and took some time to have family photos taken. We had a great morning taking photos around Rock Bridge State Park. The park is the perfect location for taking photographs, the scenery is diverse and being in the woods is relaxing.

Here are a few pictures from the family portrait session, I hope you enjoy them.

Missouri vs. Kansas State Women’s College Basketball Photos {Columbia, Mo.}

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

I photographed the Missouri women’s basketball team take on Kansas State last weekend at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers have had a rough go in Big XII conference play this season. Mizzou’s Liene Priede hit a big a 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left in the game tie the score and force overtime. Missouri played a solid overtime period to pick up just their second win in conference play this season.

Women’s basketball games are a lot easier to photograph than the men’s games. The baselines are a lot less packed and the atmosphere is a little more relaxed. I hope you enjoy a few pictures from the game.

Friday, February 24th, 2012

The Missouri Tigers took on the Kansas State Wildcats in a Big XII college basketball game on Tuesday evening and I was at Mizzou Arena to cover the action. The teams played a very physical and hard fought game and Kansas State came out on top, delivering the third ranked Tigers their third loss of the season. Kansas State’s physical play frustrated Mizzou all night long. Missouri pulled to within three in the second half, but they were not able to get over the hump. Here are a few photos from the game.

Missouri vs. Oklahoma State College Basketball Photos {Columbia, Mo.}

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I photographed the Missouri Tiger’s basketball game against Oklahoma State earlier this week, and this was the first Missouri basketball game I photographed this season. Missouri played one of their better games of the season and were up by more than 20 points in the second half.

It was a fun game to shot and Missouri ended up winning the game 83-65. The win also gave senior’s Kim English, Marcus Denmon, Steve Moore, and Jarrett Sutton their 101st career win, which set a school record.

Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three {Mojos Columbia, Mo.}

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

I posted one photograph from Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three’s performance at Mojos in Columbia, Mo. a couple of weeks ago, and now here are the rest. If you like American roots music make sure to check them out. The band has been featured on NPR and the BBC and tours worldwide.

Mojo’s is a smaller club and is a great place to catch a show with its intimate setting. It is also on the darker side, I photographed most of the concert with a Nikon 50mm F1.4 lens wide open. The big aperture of the lens helped get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action on stage. Music photography is always a challenge with the lack of light and moving musicians, but it can also be a lot of fun.

I actually went to high school with Pokey so it was great to catch up with him. It is always a lot of fun photographing old friends and catching up with them. Here are a few more photos of Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three’s Columbia performance.

Photos of the Year {My favorites from 2011}

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

It is hard to believe that another year has come and gone. The past year has been a great year, I had the opportunity to photograph quite a few beautiful weddings, cute kids, sporting events and ad campaigns in 2011. I also successful completed personal project over the summer, taking a photo a day using a film Holga camera. I spent a lot of time scanning negatives but it was a great experience and got the creativity flowing.

I am excited to see what 2012 has in store for me. I am currently working on developing a new website for my wedding and portrait photography, so stay tuned for updates. Now here are a few of my favorite photographs, in no particular order, from the last year.

Missouri vs. Texas Tech College Football Photos {Columbia, Mo.}

Monday, November 21st, 2011

I photographed the Missouri versus Texas Tech football game over the weekend. The game marked the final home game of the season, and Missouri’s last home game as members of the Big XII conference. Saturday was senior day which is always a fun game to photograph. Each player is announced individually before the game starts and is greeted by the coaching staff. Following the game the players have a tradition of picking a rock out of the rock M on the hill in the north end zone of Faurot Field and being carried off of the field on the shoulders of the underclassmen.

The game got off to a slow start, but the last few minutes were packed with excitement. Missouri quarter back James Franklin scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:22 left in the game. The Missouri defense needed a big stop and got it with under a minute left in the game after Dominique Hamilton tipped a ball at the line of scrimmage and Michael Sam came down with an interception sealing Missouri’s 31-27.

Kerri and Brian Engagement Photos {Columbia, Mo.}

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

We had another perfect fall day with awesome light for photographing Kerri and Brian’s engagement session a couple of Sunday’s ago. I’ve known Kerri since we lived in the dorms together our freshman year of college and have been good friends ever since. It has been great getting to know Brian over the last few years and adding another person to our group of friends. Kerri and Brian are a really fun couple which made photographing them a great time.

We started the session with an urban look in a couple of different locations in downtown Columbia before moving to the University of Missouri campus. Columbia is a great place for engagement sessions, there are several different settings and looks all within a couple of blocks of each other. We headed back downtown for a couple of more pictures before Kerri and Brian got some ice cream from Sparky’s to wrap up a great e-session. Finishing up a session with ice cream or something interactive always makes for great photos.
