Photo of the Week May: 12-18 {Southwest Air}

May 18th, 2012

Here is a quick photo taken while flying to Las Vegas last weekend. I have been using Instagram on my iPhone to share photos for the last few months, and this picture used an Instagram filter to give it the toning effect.

If you would like to follow me on Instagram you can find me @jkelleyphoto. Be sure to check back next week for another installment of my photo of the week.

Photo of the Week: May 5-11 {Bananas Foster Flames}

May 11th, 2012

I was the second photographer for a wedding here in Columbia, Mo. last weekend and the bride and groom decided to have bananas foster as the desert at their wedding reception. The staff of the Tiger Hotel put on a great display as they were preparing the dish for everyone in the reception venue to see.

The flames were really impressive so I wanted to try to capture them without over exposing the whole scene. This picture was pretty simple, I had a remote flash high and behind the person who was preparing the desert. The flash provided some rim lighting for the subject and the flames provided the light for his face. Be sure to check back for some more photos from this lovely spring wedding in Columbia Mo.

Tina Senior Portraits {Columbia, Mo.}

May 3rd, 2012

We had a great senior portrait session with Tina in Columbia, Mo. recently. Tina wanted to start by taking some pictures in the woods behind her house and it was a great location. There was a really cool rocky stream bed which offered perfect background to start the session.

Tina and her friends like to hang out in downtown Columbia around Peace Park and Flat Branch Park, so we headed there next for our second location and some more fun and creative senior photos. The weather was perfect and we had great light as the session continued into the early evening.

We had a great time getting to know Tina and learn about her plans for the future during her senior portrait session. We hope you enjoy these pictures, we had a great time taking them.

Photo of the Week: Apr. 21-27 {Volleyball Action}

April 29th, 2012

I traveled to Kansas City last weekend to help photograph a large youth volleyball tournament. There were hundreds of teams there competing on more than 150 courts at the same time. We would photograph two to three games every hour for about 12 hours a day. It was a long weekend but it was fun and the time went by really fast because there was so much going on.

Here is one of the thousands of volleyball pictures I shot last weekend.

Photo of the Week: Apr. 14-20 {Senior Portraits}

April 21st, 2012

We had a great senior photo session with Hickman High School senior Tina earlier this week. We started out in the woods that back up to Tina’s house and this is where this photo was taken. The woods and stream bed made for a great setting to start off the senior portrait session.

Be sure to check back in a few days for a full blog post from Tina’s senior photos.

Photo of the Week: Apr. 7-13 {Missouri Botanical Garden}

April 19th, 2012

We spent part of Easter Weekend in St. Louis and made our annual spring trip through the Missouri Botanical Garden. Spring came really early this year so there weren’t a whole lot of flowers in bloom, but it was still nice to be able to walk around their gorgeous grounds.

This picture is a macro photograph of the center of a yellow peony, and reminds me of coral you might find on the ocean floor.

Photo of the Week: Mar. 31-Apr. 6 {Ewing Manor Engagment Photos}

April 6th, 2012

Last weekend I had the opportunity to travel back to my hometown of Bloomington, Ill. to photograph an engagement session for Carrie and Ryan, I will also be photographing their wedding in June.

Here is one of my favorite photos from Carrie and Ryan’s Ewing Manor engagement photo session. I asked Ryan to dip Carrie for a photograph and this was his best attempt. The shoot was a lot of fun and both Ryan and Carrie were really easy going and were having a lot of fun with each other which I think you can see in this photo. Check back in a few days for a full blog post from Carrie and Ryan’s engagement session.

Lindsey and Josh Wedding Photographs {St. Charles, Mo.}

April 6th, 2012

Here are a few pictures from Lindsey and Josh’s perfect spring wedding in St. Charles Mo. We started with portraits of Lindsey and Josh around downtown St. Charles before the rest of their wedding party arrived. Once everyone was there we took some creative portraits with the entire wedding party at a couple of locations around the downtown area.

The wedding ceremony took place at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Many of Lindsey’s relatives have been married at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she marked the fifth generation to do so.

After the ceremony we headed to the reception held at the Foundry Art Centre. The building was originally a train car factory and has been converted into an art center that houses artists studios, and the Grand Hall which provided the perfect space for the reception. Lindsey and her mom did a wonderful job with all of the decorations at the reception. I have to say it is one of the nicest reception venues I have had the opportunity to photograph in.

Photo of the Week: Mar. 24-30 {Wedding Ring Detail}

April 2nd, 2012

This week’s photo is a ring detail picture from a wedding I helped to photograph in St. Charles, Mo. Taking pictures of rings and figuring out a way to style them can be challenging because they are so small and can have a lot of detail.

Luckily the table centerpieces included branches of flowers that we were able to hang the bride’s beautiful wedding band on. The venue had strands of lights above the area, which I included in the photo to add some graphics and make the picture a little more interesting. This picture was again taken with a macro lens which really lets the details of the ring be shown.
